ABOUT ME

"The Census is a very important data collection effort", with those words Mrs. De Jesús sealed my destiny in ways she couldn't imagine. Mrs. De Jesús was my third grade teacher, she was a very respected woman in my family and in my communitty. She had taught my mother (Lisette), my Uncle Osvaldo and many of my cousins.  She was the kind of teacher that care more about teaching with a purpose than for assessments. She would have us draw and color maps every week, and she always encouraged us to find creative solutions to problems in "social studies".

As my academic career progressed I found myself consulting data from the Census for multiple projects. Despite this, I never imagined being a demographer, after all "how many and where" was not a question you often hear about people, most of the times those questions are asked in relation to money.

As I completed my economic training, I found myself asking questions more related to Demography than to Economics ... "Why and who moves from one country to another?" ... "How does migration affects the population of Puerto Rico?". After completing my M.A. in Economics, I set sail for San Antonio, TX and I have been doing demography since.

I hope this portfolio provides you with information about my research. Feel free to contact me to inquire about these and other projects.

Here I discuss measurement of population characteristics for under-represented groups with Robert "Bob" McCaa.

Full house for my first Paper Presentation at the Population Association of America (PAA) meeting, in San Diego, CA.
